Meet the Back in Shape team

Dr Elizabeth Garvey
BSc(Hons) MChiro LRCC
Doctor of Chiropractic

Liz is our wonderful director here at Back in Shape Chiropractic! Liz graduated from The Welsh Institute of Chiropractic at the University of South Wales where she received a distinction and the Academic Excellence award by getting the highest marks in her year as well as the Leadership Award for her contributions to the University and fellow students. Liz set up Back in Shape Chiropractic in 2019.

Her passion for health and for helping people is what urged her to make the decision to become a chiropractor. Although Liz suffered a double stress fracture and a vertebral slip in her spine (a spondylolisthesis) through National level gymnastics, chiropractic has seen her through the ups and downs. She is acutely aware of the difference that chiropractic can make to people's lives.

Liz practices a diversified Chiropractic technique as well as Sacro Occipital Technique (SOT) and has also qualified in Acupuncture, Sports taping and pregnancy and paediatric Chiropractic. She is a member of the British Medical Acupuncture Society and is registered with the General Chiropractic Council (GCC) and The British Chiropractic Association (BCA). Elizabeth has also completed post graduate qualifications with the Royal College of Chiropractors (RCC) to become a Licentiate member.

Liz is a registered PRT trainer of other chiropractors. Liz also works with the General Chiropractic Council (the UK regulator for Chiropractors) as a Test of Competence Assessor for overseas Chiropractors wishing to work in the UK.

Dr Lee Lewis-Dagnell
MChiro
Doctor of Chiropractic

Lee graduated from Health Sciences University, formerly known as the Anglo European College of Chiropractic with a Master of Chiropractic and has had a diverse career; having worked in a vibrant mix of inner city, semi-rural and teaching clinics. He loves to educate patients about their complaints and help build confidence that they can return to optimum function and reduce their pain.

Lee easily builds a rapport with his patients and utilises a completely tailored approach to each treatment; where his easy-going nature really shines. Lee is a certified swimming coach and keen runner; he is currently in training for a 70.3mile iron man in 2025. If he isn't training, he loves spending time with his family and friends and his little buddy, Lumi the whippet.

He has special interests in sports, functional movement and afferentology - the study of muscles and their involvement with the nervous system- and has been taught by a renowned chiropractor and afferentologist. Lee’s main goal is to help patients return to active, daily living and believes that home exercises are an integral part of a rehabilitation plan. Lee is registered with the General Chiropractic Council, The Royal College of Chiropractors and the British Chiropractic Association.

Emma James
FdSc BSc(Hons)

Managing a chiropractic clinic with a team of wonderful people truly feels like a dream come true for her!

When Emma isn’t at Back in Shape, you’ll likely find her soaking up the sun on a far-flung island or planning her next travel adventure. She loves spending time with friends and family (and happily borrowing their dogs whenever she can!) and makes the most of any opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors.

Emma has been part of the Back in Shape team for several years and particularly enjoys meeting people from all walks of life. She is dedicated to creating a positive and welcoming experience for every patient, ensuring that each individual feels valued and cared for.

Dr Megan Thomas

Dr Laurence Cowley

Laurence earned his Master of Chiropractic degree from the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic. His passion for chiropractic care began after witnessing the positive impact it had on his family, then experiencing its benefits firsthand following a rugby injury.

Helen Woodcock

Helen has loved working for Back in Shape now for several years, with a very friendly and tight knit team. Helen enjoys meeting new people and makes patients feel welcome and valued with her kind and caring approach, taking interest in and listening to each individual.

Helen believes passionately in the huge benefits of chiropractic adjustments, acupuncture, massage and holistic care, having received treatments for over 20 years. Primarily for neck and back pain but also other “niggles” such as jaw pain and never ceases to be amazed by all the conditions that can be alleviated by expert care.

In her spare time, Helen enjoys exercising with Pilates and walking in her local countryside and she and her husband enjoy visiting National Trust properties. Two grandchildren also keep her busy.

She was attracted to chiropractic because she saw the huge benefits she could make to people's lives. Ali will streamline the diagnosis process and empower patients to not only feel well again but to fulfil their health goals by focusing on patient education. She hopes to motivate all her patients to return to normal daily living - whatever that entails for their individual needs.
